How To Dress For A Formal Occasion

How To Dress For A Formal Occasion

Hey guys, it's Hanna!

It's not hard to look fabulous. This guide will tell you how to look like a celeb without breaking the piggy-bank!

➳ Get that perfect dress: Frenchies and secondhand stores sell clothes for less. Mind you, a lot of formal dresses used to be expensive, so the recycled dresses might be mid-priced.

➳ Jewelery The general rule is: Don't go overboard! Avoid matching all your jewelery. Mix it up a bit. If you must match it, then try to make sure that at least one piece isn't from the "set."

➳ Nails: Get a manicure/pedicure or glue on nails. Keep in mind that if they are too long or too squared off then it will not be glamorous- it will be tacky. "Forever French" or french polish is always chic.

➳ Hair: Style your hair to compliment your dress. Experiment the week before the formal to see what looks best with your dress, frame, etc. Hair accessories (feathers, jeweled combs, etc.) can also add interest. Keep in mind that whatever style you choose, clean hair is a must.

➳ Make-Up The general rule is: Focus on your eyes or lips but never both. You might want to take an hour or two to fiddle around with your makeup well before the Big Night. Start with a sheer foundation and use it sparingly. (Be aware that some foundations and powders can actually make your skin reflect several shades lighter in photographs. Also, if you're fake-tanning, make sure that your foundation matches your finished colour, otherwise it'll end up looking cheap and fake.) Decide on where you want the focus to be. Bold lips are not for the faint-hearted, so if you're unsure, err on the side of caution and focus on your eyes.

➳ Shoes: For most girls, you want .5-1 heels. Remember, you may be dancing all night so pick up shoes you're comfortable in. Either buy cheap shoes you will not wear again but match the outfit, or buy expensive shoes that you will wear with every outfit. Shop around and look for comfort and style.

➳ Grooming:
➳ A few days before: Fake-tan if you feel it's necessary, but only use a brand you've used before and are 100% happy with. The last thing you want is to end up with stripes, blotches or being a repulsive shade of tangerine. Also, consider getting your eyebrows professionally waxed/shaped.
➳ Night Before: Unless you do it every day, wash your hair now. Doing it the day before allows you (or the hairdresser, depending on your budget) better control of the hair. Too-clean hair is very difficult to work with.
➳ Event Day: Shower (or bathe, if you've got your hair done and don't want the water and humidity to ruin the style). Avoid using scented body-wash if you're using perfume. The two might not compliment each other. Deodorize, and make sure that it's invisible, especially if you're wearing black. If you need to pluck your eyebrows, do it at least 6 hours beforehand, otherwise you run the risk of the skin still being unsettled and red. Brush your teeth and freshen your breath.

And you are ready to go! I hope this helped you guys.

xoxo
-Hanna
