How To Decorate Your Dorm

How To Decorate Your Dorm

Hey guys, Hanna here!

So I don't really have a dorm, but I thought it would be fun to do a tip about it anyway. The same steps kind of apply for decorating your room so let's get to it!!

01. Check. Yes you, check the rules conditions for living in the dorm. Many dorms have strict rules about mounting photos and painting the walls. Check before you decide to do anything major with your dorm rooms. It also helps to talk to your room-mate and discuss your budget, likes, dislikes and colors you can't stand. You are going to be living there for the year, how awful would it be if you had to live in a yellow room and yellow made your head spin.

02. Envision. Get unpacked and line your personal belongings on the floor and gaze at the empty space around you. Being surrounded by your possessions will help to prevent homesickness. How would you like your dorm room to appear? Do you want it to appear classy, trendy, fun, edgy or plan comfortable. It helps if you look at a few articles for design ideas.

03. Time for Action! Flex your muscles and start moving furniture around, push that horrible wood grain table under the window.Give the bed a push away from that elf-sized closet to give yourself space for pacing. You will probably need your roommate and their permission for this one.

04. Action bedspread. Yes your bedspread is a big part of your decor, since you have such limited options, a bedspread is more of a design element more than even before. Find a pattern or color you like and will not grow out of in a few months. If you are sure you will find fire engine red as alluring as if was in the summer, go for it. Buy cool throw pillows to give your room warmth, throw them in your chairs and set them across your bed. Remember cohesion is the key, you want everything to look related to each other.

05. Consider storage and organization as a decoration. You'll need to cram a lot into a small space and storage helps to keep your belongings safe and tidy. Choose organization that is color coded and themed and matched to your decor. There are plenty of designs to choose from, wicker baskets, neon plastic , tin, just make sure it is sturdy enough to last you your stay. For example, neon crates that look cool match your jet black splatter paint blanket.

06. Invest in a small safe. Use this for passports, ID, mobile phones, laptop and expensive jewelery etc. Be vigilant. If you accidentally leave your door unlocked, someone could slip in and take your precious belongings. Find a quality safe that means stay away from flimsy tin safes in bright colors. This safe is simple for safety, not decor.

07. Colorsplash. Find a trendy colorful or stylish throw rug for your hardwood floor to keep your feet warm during the winter. Many dorm rooms are not blessed with floor carpeting and you will have to trek to the nearest Target or Walmart and find a nice rug. A soft carpet will make you feel as if you are at home and pull together your room decor. A carpet can make or break a room. That old beer stain carpet you took from your Uncles wouldn't be a good idea if your bed spread is pink.

08. Under the bed is a great storage space. If the height is too small, bed risers are available. Suitcases, clothes, shoes, textbooks etc. can all be stored safely under the bed using color theme crates found at Walmart, Target and many other large chain stores.Remember above the space above the wardrobe can be used. Plastic boxes are especially useful and can be stacked above the wardrobe out of the way.

09. Dreadful blank walls. Many dorms do not allow you to hang frames from a wall unless you use old fashion clear tape.Take advantage of posters.Tape magazines and photos across your wall in cool patterns.Another idea is to cover every wall with a black curtain complete with the curtain rod, there are hooks that stick to the wall without nails and peel away without a hint of damage. Go to your nearest hardware store and ask for the product.

10. Hit the thrift store and set up old knick-nacks on your inn table and dresser drawer. Albums and ancient books scattered across the table. A few art pieces you find appealing to the eye would look great on that dresser drawer. Lean photographs against the wall if you are not allowed to stick nails into the wall.

11. Curtains. If your dorm was not generous enough to supply curtains, purchase a few from the dorm section at big surplus stores. A cheaper option would be a few shower curtains or buying bundles of fabric and sewing them yourselves. If you live in the heart of the city, try curtains that will block out bright lights and warm up your room.

And that's it! Like and comment bellow, if you want me to give you more tips and warnings about decorating your dorm.

xoxo
